Making Open Plan Cozy:
The renovation of this house consisted of reinstating some edges and boundaries between rooms so that it was comfortable to furnish and live in. The existing house suffered from an open plan that was so open that it felt more like a gymnasium than a house. The owner wanted to incorporate some organic forms and undulating curves to soften the otherwise rectilinear character of the interior.
This was done with an eye toward keeping the sight lines open and unobstructed to the scenic cove and adjacent seaside horse paddock while creating some cozy places to nestle into while enjoying the view. The whole space was finished off with a detailed lighting design, rich colors, and subtle but expansive sky canopy painted on the cathedral ceiling by Zoe Design.
