Simplicity by the Sea:

A newly constructed house was conceived as an updated version of a vernacular seaside cottage. The building forms are elemental in their simplicity. The focus was to capture the views and light while creating a simple setting for art pieces in many forms and media. Art direction and artistic collaboration with local artists and artisans was a theme in this effort. There is a simple glass pavilion that connects the two main building volumes. This space is both a dining space and a family activity and gathering space.

It is organized around a massive timber flitch table from a local linden tree and supported by two monolithic native granite pedestals. The seam between the planks is filled with popple stones (stones rounded by tumbling in the sea) that were collected from the site during excavation. A folding glass door, the length of the room, opens the space up completely to an adjacent seaside terrace.
