River View:
This project entailed taking an existing residence that contained a maze-like array of rooms that failed to take advantage of the commanding view of the Annisquam and completely transforming it. The renovation focused on smoothing out the flow of the house, visually connecting the yard and adjacent marsh to the interior, and capturing the picturesque meander of the river beyond. It is nestled into a granite cliff on one side and perched over the
expansive waterfront on the other side. The house is three stories high, so the stair design was critical to pulling the flow of the house together. To keep it light and transparent it was designed as a suspended open riser stair fabricated of steel and bronze with fumed oak treads. The view side of the house is filled with folding glass doors which essentially erase the edge of the building and embrace the view.
