Permitting

We can help you transform permitting from a constraint into an opportunity

At Poore and Company we believe that at the heart or essence of nearly every regulation that has been conceived there is a root principle or interest which benefits you, the owner. Even though at first glance this seems like a counter-intuitive philosophy, we can share many permitting stories that clearly demonstrate the tangible benefits of this approach. We find that by understanding and assimilating the underlying intent of the regulation, we can often meet or exceed the regulatory performance standards. We do this in a way that answers all of the concerns of the regulatory body, meets and often exceeds your design goals, and at the same time adds tangible value to the outcome of your project. We navigate cooperatively, and proactively through permitting rather than fighting our way through the process.

View from the street

This project had a small site with drainage problems, blocked neighbor views, and a house too small and dysfunctional. It seemed to be a difficult task to both satisfy the owner and obtain the necessary permits. We solved water problems in a way that exceeded the Conservation Commission's performance standards and created much-needed, useable outdoor spaces. Through careful and creative design, we received unanimous approval from the Zoning Board to enlarge the building by putting additions in more concealed areas of the site and thereby improving neighbors' views.
