Green design
At Poore and Company we take a very broad approach to green design. While we incorporate current green technologies, we feel green design is more than just using green products or making a “green design statement”. In it’s broadest sense, we believe being green means considering all aspects of the natural, built, and social environments in one integrated process. In addition to incorporating green materials and building strategies we help you do more with less.
This includes designing to your particular needs in the most efficient configuration possible. Through this careful design process, we produce buildings that people rarely have need to modify which is truly green and sustainable design. Another significant green strategy we employ is integrated site design.
Integrated site design is the process of weaving the landscape design seamlessly into the architectural design throughout the planning and construction process. This is automatically more green. For example, the preservation of undisturbed native species, which are acclimated to existing soils, drainage and precipitation, is less resource intensive than clearing, re-grading, and replanting a disturbed site. This approach also preserves the special, natural, aesthetic qualities of your unique site.
We can also help you evaluate which green building technologies and materials will be effective to incorporate into your project. Building smaller and more effectively is often more green than merely incorporating green materials into an oversized and inefficiently designed project.
Compact house surgically implanted in the landscape – This 1,100 square foot house was carefully woven into the existing topography, ledge outcroppings, and native woodland landscape. Even though it is in a dense village setting, on a small lot, it has a special sense of place much like a private mountain retreat.
