Rockledge

Hiram Walker of whiskey and scotch fame originally built this reinforced concrete, ten-bedroom estate in the early 1900’s. Poore and Company treated the project as a comprehensive detailed historic renovation, preserving and restoring as much of the original spirit of the house as possible. The effort took a number of years to complete but the result was deeply rewarding. It included all new plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems threaded seamlessly through the historic concrete structure. The

care and thought was carried all the way through the small details, such as rescuing, inventorying, and restoring all of the original lighting which we discovered was actually sterling silver and brass buried under layers of dirty green paint. Some of the special challenges included engineering new custom windows to fit the large concrete openings and devising an installation technique that would resist potential wave impact during heavy storms on this exposed Rockledge.
