Integrated Design
Once we have accurately identified your needs and helped you clearly state the design problem, we then use integrated design, in the fullest sense of the word, as a means to work with you to meet your needs in a truly interdisciplinary collaboration. To achieve this, we draw from the many skills and interests of our staff, and as required, independant consultants in order to coordinate all appropriate design
considerations from the initial concept to the final detail. Regardless of the nature of the design task, whether the large scale of site and landscape planning or the small scale of designing a single piece of freestanding furniture, we employ the same integrated design process to create a solution that responds to your needs and is appropriate to your setting.
Sensitivity to existing landscape - Through the integration of site, landscape, and architectural design this new house nestles into a largely undisturbed mature landscape.
Sensitivity to a period interior - Period inspired architectural detail and flanking built-ins were added to this original Arts and Crafts period living room fireplace. The owner commissioned an artisan to produce the custom leaded glass and fossil sidelights. The new and the old are seamless in this interior.
Light and view – This new house on the coast of Cape Ann was designed to capture the commanding view and rich light that this site offers. Windows, spaces, and furniture were strategically placed to capitalize on the view without compromising privacy in this dense neighborhood.
Terracing a sloped site – The natural ledge, boulders, and existing plant material were used in conjunction with new landscape elements to anchor this new residence to the steeply sloped site.
